Why learn French?
Join the French speaking community
French is the official (or co-official) language for 28 countries. Around the world, there are thousands of people learning French everyday. French as a foreign language is the second language being taught worldwide, after English. Today, nearly 200 million people speak French; the only other language, apart from English, that is spoken in the five continents. So what about you?
An international language
French is the official language for international organizations such
as the United Nations, NATO, the International Olympic Committee, the
European Union, the World Trade Organization… If you are thinking of an
international career, French can be a real advantage for you.
A language of the Pacific
Together with English, French is also, the official language of the
South Pacific Community. French is indeed present in the waters of the
Pacific (Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia...). Do bear in mind that
your nearest neighbors also speak French (New-Caledonia and Vanuatu).
Learning French will allow you to facilitate trade with the French
territories of the Pacific or simply meet French speakers of the
Pacific by visiting their islands.
Studying in France or in French
Each year, the French Embassy in Suva offers post graduate
scholarships to students who wish to further their studies in France.

much appreciated

Learning French, is the pleasure of learning a new
language, it is the discovery of a new culture, and an opening up to
the world around. It is also the possibility of making new friends in a
classroom setting.
Why learn vernacular languages in Fiji?
Fijian and Hindi, two of the three main languages of the Fiji Islands are also taught at the Alliance Française de Suva .
Communicate with locals
Learning Fijian and Hindi allows you to communicate with people
around you, your colleagues, your friends… It is also useful to
communicate in daily life situations (at work, at the market, on the
street, during week-ends...) and to make new friends.
Understand your environment
Learning the languages of the country is a way of understanding and
appreciating the culture, the traditions, and the inhabitants of a
country. This is the real Fiji experience!
